The Villa Grove City Council discussed three non-voting items on the agenda at Monday’s meeting.
The Council discussed potential changes to the Douglas County Enterprise Zone, such as boundary changes to comply with state law limiting the amount of enterprise zones in a county. The Enterprise Zone Board will be meeting at a later date to discuss the changes. The enterprise zone in Villa Grove runs along Illinois Route 130 and extends to the southwestern and northern edges of town.
To qualify for tax benefits in the enterprise zone, the interested business must spend a minimum of $200,000 on the project and create at least one full-time job. Eligible projects include industrial and manufacturing sites, commercial businesses, offices, and logistics and distribution centers. Residential developments do not qualify for these tax credits.
The Council also discussed selling an unused pickup truck by the fire department to the city’s maintenance department with the agreement that the fire department could use the truck if necessary. No formal votes were taken tonight on the agenda items.
The city departments gave their respective reports. The city administrator discussed a recent rise in Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests filed with the city. She also discussed a recent glitch in the city’s payroll software with the state that sent paper checks to some city employees and a paper check to the city of Villa Grove for motor fuel tax funds.
Road work is being finished within the city limits. There are a few projects left to complete, according to the city engineer. He is currently working on a map for next year’s proposed road repairs. Mayor Derek Rasmussen gave his report as well. His report was rather brief; however, he did mention that a developer is eyeing building an apartment complex within the city.
