Connor Musgrave delivered a breakout performance at the plate on Friday, driving in six runs to lead the Tuscola Warriors to a 12-2 win over St. Teresa and highlight a week that featured both offensive firepower and tough losses for the baseball team.
Musgrave put together a big night, going 3-for-3 with a home run and two singles. He launched a three-run homer in the second inning, added a two-run single in the fourth, and capped his night with another RBI single in the fifth.
Tuscola struck first in the opening inning when Evan Englehardt singled to bring home a run. The Warriors extended their lead in the second behind Musgrave’s home run, then broke the game open in the fifth with a six-run outburst. Cooper Lyons, Jon Pettry, Musgrave, Kingston Wheeler, and Englehardt each drove in runs during the inning, while Will Gibson added a sacrifice fly.
Englehardt earned the win on the mound, tossing five innings while allowing two runs on six hits. He struck out eight and walked two.
Tuscola finished with 10 hits in the victory, with Pettry and Englehardt each collecting multiple hits. The Warriors also showed patience at the plate, drawing six walks.
Despite the strong finish to the week, Tuscola dropped a narrow 7-6 contest to St. Anthony on Thursday.
Musgrave again led the offense, driving in four runs on three hits, but the Warriors couldn’t overcome a five-run deficit from the middle innings. Tuscola rallied to tie the game at six in the bottom of the sixth after Musgrave delivered an RBI single, but St. Anthony answered in the seventh with a go-ahead run on a single by Curtis Tingley.
Tuscola had clawed back into the game after falling behind early, using a combination of timely hitting and defensive miscues to even the score. However, the late push came up just short.
Earlier in the week, Tuscola fell 7-5 to Meridian despite outhitting its opponent 11-8.
The Warriors kept pace throughout the game, responding to an early 4-0 deficit with a two-run homer by Musgrave in the first inning. They later tied the game in the second behind a run-scoring single from Lyons and a home run by Wheeler.
The game remained tight until Meridian broke through with a go-ahead home run in the sixth inning.
Lyons, Wheeler, and Will Gibson each had two hits in the loss, while Musgrave and Wheeler drove in two runs apiece.
Across the three games, Musgrave was a consistent force in the lineup, combining power and timely hitting to lead Tuscola’s offense. The Warriors showed their ability to produce runs and battle back but will look to turn strong individual performances into more consistent results as the season continues.
Next up they faced Central A&M on Monday, Altamont on Tuesday, at home vs. Shelbyville on April 22, at home vs. Warrensburg-Latham April 27, at home vs. Heritage April 28, and at home vs. Clinton April 29.
