Cody Kuhns delivered a standout performance at the plate Tuesday, collecting three hits to lead the ACS Conquering Riders to a 14-9 victory over the Arcola Purple Riders.
Kuhns went 3-for-4 with singles in the second, third and fourth innings, helping fuel a balanced offensive attack that produced 15 hits for ACS.
The Conquering Riders struck first in the opening inning when Ian Herschberger singled home a run. Arcola answered in the bottom half, taking advantage of an error to even the score at 1-1.
ACS quickly seized control in the second inning, erupting for five runs on four hits. Joe Theriault delivered the key blow with a two-run double as the Riders built a 6-1 advantage.
The momentum continued in the third, when the Conquering Riders added four more runs. Kuhns and Theriault each delivered RBI singles, Tyler Gingerich drove in a run with a groundout, and another Arcola miscue helped extend the lead.
Herschberger earned the win in relief, tossing 3 1/3 shutout innings while allowing just one hit and striking out six. Kuhns started on the mound, working three innings and striking out six, while Aaron Stutzman also appeared in relief.
Offensively, Ivan Yoder joined Kuhns with three hits, while Herschberger and Theriault each drove in three runs. Grayson Schrock and Kedrick Chupp added multiple hits as the Conquering Riders kept pressure on Arcola’s pitching staff throughout the game.
Arcola stayed aggressive at the plate, drawing 11 walks and swiping five bases. Brody Phillips and Brevyn Whisman each had two hits, while Jackson Griffith, Whisman and Connor Truex drove in runs. Phillips, Ronnie Vega and Hunter Drake each drew two walks, and both Phillips and Drake recorded multiple stolen bases.
Despite Arcola’s late efforts, ACS’s early offensive surge proved too much to overcome as the Conquering Riders secured the road victory.
