ACS edges St. Teresa, cruises past MacArthur in strong two-game stretch

The Conquering Riders softball team put together an impressive pair of performances this week, rallying for an 8-6 win over St. Teresa before rolling to a dominant 17-0 victory against MacArthur.
Against St. Teresa last Tuesday, ACS had to battle back after an early deficit. The Bulldogs struck first in the opening inning, taking a 2-0 lead on an RBI groundout by Riley Boyer and a run-scoring double from Emery Krieger.
ACS responded in the third inning, taking control of the game behind timely hitting. Lilian Beever sparked the rally with an RBI double, and Lilie Herschberger followed with a two-run single to give the Riders a 3-2 advantage.
St. Teresa answered in the fourth, reclaiming a 5-4 lead on RBI singles from Karlee Chandler and Savannah Chandler. But the Conquering Riders wasted little time responding.
In the bottom half of the fourth, ACS delivered the decisive blow. Elsie Beever doubled to center field to drive in two runs, and Herschberger added another two-run single, putting the Conquering Riders back in front for good at 8-5.
Beever started in the circle and allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits over three innings, striking out three without issuing a walk. Herschberger and Beever also contributed in relief to secure the win.
At the plate, Beever and Herschberger proved to be a formidable duo in the middle of the lineup, each driving in three runs. Beever paced the offense by going 3-for-4.
ACS faced MacArthur on Monday, where they dominated from the outset in a 17-0 shutout at home.
They plated three runs in the first inning, highlighted by RBI walks from Brooke Herschberger and Sheri Miller. The offense then erupted for eight runs in the second inning, taking advantage of both hits and aggressive baserunning.
Lilian Beever delivered a two-run single in the inning, while Elsie Beever and Lilie Herschberger each added RBI hits. The Riders also capitalized on a steal of home and several walks to extend the lead.
ACS added five more runs in the third inning, with RBI singles from Miller, Charlie Russell, and Herschberger helping to put the game out of reach.
In the circle, Herschberger started and tossed two scoreless innings, allowing just one hit. Beever followed with two shutout innings of relief, striking out four without allowing a hit.
The Conquering Riders’ offense remained disciplined throughout, drawing nine walks and swiping five bases. Multiple players contributed at the plate, with Lilian Beever, Elsie Beever, and Lilie Herschberger each collecting two hits. Brooke Herschberger, Avery Herschberger, and Naomi Sanders led the team with two walks apiece.
With the pair of wins, ACS showcased both resilience and firepower, combining timely hitting with strong pitching and aggressive baserunning in a well-rounded team effort.
They faced the Tornadoes of Tri-City on Monday 4/27, @ Arcola on 4/28, @ Heritage on 4/30, @ Tri-County on 5/5, and @ home vs. Okaw Valley 5/7.
