SULLIVAN – Neither team had a hit through three innings of Monday’s Lincoln Prairie Conference baseball game, but Sullivan led 3-0 taking advantage of some control problems by the starting Arcola pitcher.
On May 6 Arcola scored at least one run in every inning in a 17-0 LPC win over Blue Ridge. Jackson Griffith hit a three-run homer in the first inning to get the Purple Riders offense started, while Brody Phillips was 2-for-3 with both hits being triples. He had one RBI, while Kaden Hohlbauch drove in four runs.
The Purple Riders broke up the no-hit bid by Sullivan’s Easton Wickline with a leadoff single in the fourth by Brevyn Whisman. However, he was left at third and Hunter Drake, who walked, was left at second.
In the fifth it all changed as Arcola took advantage of four hit batsmen, two walks and an error scoring six runs on just two hits, both singles.
Sullivan’s first hit did not come until a two-out single by Brady Stollard in the fifth.
In the AHS fifth Brody Drake and Will Biggs were hit by a pitch. With one out both runners moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. Phillips walked. Brody Drake scored on a wild pitch and Biggs moved to third. Phillips stole second and Whisman reached on an error as Biggs scored. Phllips tied the game by scoring on an error and with two outs Hunter Drake singled in Whisman as they took the lead for good. Bases were loaded after a Jordan Gignerich single and Hohlbauch was hit by a pitch. Brody Drake drove in a run by being hit by a pitch and Gingerich scored when Biggs walked on four pitches.
Arcola, winners of three straight, is 9-9 overall and 6-3 in the LPC, while the Redskins dropped to 6-16 overall and 4-4 in the conference.
